DUBLIN — An Air France flight bound for Paris was forced to make an unexpected diversion to Dublin Airport early Monday morning following a medical emergency on board.

Air France Flight AF99, operated by a Boeing 777-300ER (registration F-GZNH), had departed George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas, shortly after 4:00 PM local time on Sunday, October 18.

After almost eight hours of transatlantic travel, the long-haul airliner was cruising at 34,000 feet south of Ireland when the flight crew issued a general emergency signal (squawking code 7700) to air traffic control. The call was prompted by a passenger falling ill mid-flight and requiring immediate medical assistance.

Upon declaring the emergency, the aircraft initiated a sharp left turn toward the Irish mainland. Air traffic controllers vectored the Boeing 777 directly to Dublin Airport, where emergency medical crews were placed on standby.

The aircraft touched down safely on Runway 28L approximately 40 minutes after the emergency was declared.
