PARIS — An EVA Air long-haul flight bound for Taipei was forced to execute an emergency turnback shortly after departure from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) on Monday before safely resuming its transcontinental trip later in the afternoon.

Flight BR88, operated by a Boeing 777-300ER with registration B-16732, departed Paris CDG at 11:40 CEST. The aircraft had reached a cruising altitude of 29,000 feet when the flight crew encountered an issue approximately 30 minutes into the flight.

Flight Timeline

  • 11:40 CEST — Flight BR88 departs Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport bound for Taipei.
  • 12:10 CEST — Reaching 29,000 feet, the flight crew transmits transponder code Squawk 7700—the standard aviation signal indicating a general emergency—and initiates a 180-degree U-turn.
  • 13:15 CEST — The Boeing 777-300ER lands safely back on the runway at Paris CDG without incident.
  • 15:15 CEST — Following an inspection and turnaround, the aircraft departs Paris for the second time, resuming its route toward Taiwan.

The prompt squawk code notification allowed air traffic control to clear airspace and prioritize the widebody airliner’s immediate descent and approach into Charles de Gaulle.

Following roughly two hours on the ground at CDG for technical evaluation and checks, the aircraft was cleared for departure. Flight BR88 is currently airborne and continuing its journey toward Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport.
