ISTANBUL — A Turkish Airlines flight bound for Islamabad, Pakistan, made an unscheduled emergency landing in Azerbaijan tonight after the flight crew declared an inflight emergency over the Caspian Sea region.

Turkish Airlines flight TK710, operated by an Airbus A330-300 (registration TC-LOE), had departed Istanbul Airport (IST) for a routine overnight journey to Islamabad International Airport (ISB).

Mid-Air Emergency Over the Caspian

The flight proceeded normally for the first two hours. However, while cruising at an altitude of 39,000 feet, the flight crew suddenly declared an emergency.

Following the declaration, the pilots initiated a rapid descent, turning the widebody aircraft toward Baku, Azerbaijan.

Flight Overview:

  • Flight Number: TK710 (Istanbul to Islamabad)
  • Aircraft Type: Airbus A330-300
  • Registration: TC-LOE
  • Cruising Altitude: 39,000 feet
  • Diversion Airport: Heydar Aliyev International Airport, Baku (GYD)

The aircraft landed safely on Runway 34 at Baku’s Heydar Aliyev International Airport shortly after its rapid descent. Emergency response teams were prepared on the ground to meet the arriving aircraft.

The exact nature of the emergency has not yet been confirmed by Turkish Airlines, and it remains unclear when the flight will be cleared to resume its journey to Islamabad.
