GLASGOW — A Jet2 flight traveling from Turkey to Scotland has declared a mid-air emergency while over the North Sea, sparking a priority approach into Glasgow Airport this afternoon.

Flight Details

  • Flight Number: LS196
  • Aircraft: Boeing 737-800 (Registration: G-JZBU)
  • Route: Dalaman (DLM) to Glasgow (GLA)
  • Scheduled Arrival: 16:35 BST

The Incident

The crew of the Boeing 737 initiated an emergency broadcast by “squawking” 7700—the international code for a general emergency—while cruising at 36,000 feet. At the time of the declaration, the aircraft was positioned between the Netherlands and the UK coast, beginning its initial descent toward the British Isles.

Tracking data shows the aircraft maintained its altitude briefly following the signal before being granted priority descent by Air Traffic Control (ATC).

UPDATES

The flight safely landed on runway 23 at 16:32 local time.
