Pilots of a Boeing 737 MAX have declared an emergency and turned around over Brittany after several passengers were injured by severe turbulence.
The Ryanair flight FR1121 departed Birmingham Airport today at 14:50 GMT for a 4-hour flight to Tenerife, Spain.
The Boeing 737 MAX took off from runway 15 and climbed to 35,000 feet then entered French airspace when the crew declared an emergency (squawk 7700).
After almost one hour in the air, the aircraft (registration EI-HGO) turned around then descended to FL100 after severe turbulence caused multiple injuries on board according to a doctor on board telling AIRLIVE.
“There was an initial jolt which was more severe than usual turbulence then the plane rotated to the right. The trolley service was taking place and the whole thing was like a horror scene with screaming kids and people all around. Luckily people remained calm and the crew asked for medical help.”
The flight returned to Birmingham and landed 1 hour and 32 minutes after departure then was parked on remote stand of the airport for paramedics to assist the passengers.
