A Ryanair Boeing 737 MAX from Manchester to Malaga was forced to divert to Bordeaux, France, after pilots declared an emergency.

Ryanair Flight FR3208, operating the popular Manchester-Malaga route, was diverted to Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport after the flight crew declared an emergency (squawk 7700).

The Boeing 737 MAX (registration EI-IJC) was cruising at 37,000 feet when pilots contacted ATC and was vectored to BOD Airport.

Bordeaux as Diversion Airport

Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport, located in southwestern France, serves as a common diversion point for aircraft experiencing medial emergencies while traveling between the UK and Spain.

The airport is well-equipped to handle situations and has the necessary facilities to accommodate stranded passengers.

Popular route

The Manchester-Malaga route is one of Ryanair’s busiest leisure routes, particularly popular with British holidaymakers traveling to Spain’s Costa del Sol. Flight FR3208 typically operates as an evening departure, allowing passengers to arrive in Malaga late at night or early morning.

Resuming the flight

The nature of the emergency is very probably medial. A new departure is scheduled for 00:20 from Bordeaux.
