A Boeing 777 from Paris CDG to Shanghai declared an emergency after it turned around over Romania.
The Air France flight AF116 departed Paris CDG Airport terminal 2, gate K43 in the night of Sunday 8 and Monday, June 9 2025 for a scheduled time of 12 hours and 45 minutes.
The Boeing 777-300ER (registration F-GZNS) climbed to 31,000 feet and flew over Germany, Austria and Hungary. But 2 hours into the flight, the crew decided to turn around while flying over Romania to return to Paris.
The crew declared a general emergency (squawk 7700) when the flight started descent to Paris, in French airspace due to a technical difficulty which ‘did not affect the aircraft’s airworthiness’ the airline said to AIRLIVE.
The aircraft landed normally at Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport at 4:35 a.m. (local time).
The passengers will be rerouted to Shanghai starting today, June 9, 2025. Maintenance will be performed on the affected aircraft before its return to service.
