An EasyJet flight was forced to divert after one of the pilots had a medical emergency.
The flight U22252 departed Hurghada, Egypt Saturday, February 8 2025 and climbed to 36,000 ft but one hour into the flight, the crew contacted ATC about a medical emergency on board.
According to passenger reports, cabin crew suddenly rushed to the front and requested urgent medical assistance on board.
The captain ‘collapsed’ while the first officer was piloting the Airbus A320neo G-UZEE and decided to divert to Athens.
The aircraft was met by paramedics and police right after landing on runway 03L, 2 hours and 39 minutes after departure from the Egyptian resort.
An EasyJet spokesperson confirmed the incident and stressed that all necessary measures were taken to minimise the impact on passengers: “The flight was diverted to Athens as the captain required medical attention. The first officer took over the landing.”
