Satena ATR 42 suffers nose gear collapse at San Andres

A Satena ATR 42 suffered nose gear collapse during a 180-degree turn for departure at San Andres.

The ATR 42-500 with registration HK-5104 was scheduled to operate flight 9R8806 from San Andres Island International Airport (SKSP) to Providencia Airport (PVA) in Colombia. 

The incident occurred at approximately 7:09 local time (12:09 Zulu time) while the aircraft was backtracking on runway 06 and nearing the lineup position for takeoff, according to a report from The Aviation Herald. 

The nose landing gear unexpectedly retracted as the aircraft prepared to initiate its takeoff roll.

Thankfully, all 49 people on board, including 45 passengers and 4 crew members, were able to disembark safely. There were no reported injuries.

Moreover, Colombia’s civil aviation authority, Aeronautica Civil, confirmed the incident and stated that the aircraft sustained damage to its nose gear. The Technical Direction of Civil Aircraft Accident Investigation has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the collapse.
