Norwegian Airlines and Scandinavian Airlines flights were ordered to turn back immediately after takeoff from Copenhagen.
Two commercial planes traveling from the Danish capital Copenhagen to the Norwegian city of Stavanger had to return to Copenhagen airport late Thursday, March 21 2024 after receiving bomb threats.
The SAS flight SK1874 was the first to takeoff for a one-hour flight but once on final approach to Stavanger, the Canadair CL-600 (registration EI-FPR) climbed back to 34,000 ft after authorities received a bomb threat.
According to the police, the SAS plane was escorted by two F-16 fighter jets as part of a standard security procedure.
About 30 minutes later, Norwegian flight DY971 took off from Copenhagen but pilots were informed of the situation right after takeoff.
The Boeing 737-800 (registration LN-NGM) immediately returned to Copenhagen only 24 minutes later.
The airlines confirmed to Norwegian broadcaster NRK that all passengers were evacuated upon landing.
Police and emergency services were still searching the planes at 9.25 p.m. local time.
