A United Airlines flight had to return to Sydney following a mechanical incident.
United Airlines flight #UA830 to San Francisco was forced to return to Sydney after 1 hour and 52 minutes of flight.
The flight was operated by a Boeing 777-300ER (registration N2140U) which is 6 years old.
The aircraft took of from runway 34L when a fluid was leaking from right hand main gear.
It suffered a loss of hydraulic pressure while retracting immediately after getting airborne
Flight #UA830 climbed to 30,000 ft but discontinued the flight and returned for a safe landing almost 2 h later.
Upon arrival back into Sydney, the aircraft was met with an army of fire crew and police. On approach, the landing gear compartment doors could be seen wide open, as well as smoke coming from one of the tires on the right-hand side of the aircraft.
It would appear that the crew didn’t receive any warnings until well into the cruise, despite the issue being present at takeoff.
