An easyJet flight from Funchal to London declared an emergency.
The flight #U28522 departed the capital city of Portugal’s Madeira archipelago in the evening of Monday, February 26 2024 for a 4 hour-flight to London.
The Airbus A320 (reg. G-EJCD) took off 45 minutes late from Funchal and started the descent to London over Normandy by 22:40 GMT.
At this time, the crew squawked 7700 (general emergency) due to smoke in the cabin, according to Flight Emergency.
The flight was given a direct route to London Gatwick where it landed on runway 08R at 23:15 GMT.
Upon landing, the aircraft was met by fire trucks.
The 14 year-old aircraft will be checked at maintenance and is supposed to return to operations in the afternoon of Tuesday for a flight to Paris CDG.
