The De Havilland Canada Dash 8-400 with registration ET-AVS was operating flight ET106 from Addis Ababa to Mekele. However, while landing at Mekele Airport, the aircraft suffered a runway excursion and landing gear collapse.
The left main gear collapsed allowing the left wing and prop to strike the ground. The aircraft skidded off the runway, attributed to an alleged flat tire, creating a moment of intense concern among those on board.
The unexpected flat tire led to the aircraft veering off course and skidding off the runway upon touchdown.
