A Rwandair Dash 8-400 suffered a runway excursion on landing at Kamembe Airport. The turboprop came to a stop around 100 metres past the runway threshold.
The De Havilland Canada Dash 8-400 with registration 9XR-WM was performing flight WB-601 from Kigali to Kamembe. However, upon landing the aircraft overran the runway and went past the end of the runway with all gears on the soft ground, as seen in footage shared on social media.
No one was injured in the incident even though, the aircraft sustained damages. Passengers and crew disembarked the aircraft unassisted.

RwandAir confirmed the incident and stated, “RwandAir Flight WB601 to Kamembe this morning had a minor incident on landing. All passengers and crew are safe. We’ll experience some disruptions in our schedule today and apologize for any inconvenience.”
RwandAir and local aviation authorities have launched a thorough investigation into this incident. Probably, the wet ground had affected the plane’s brakes and caused aquaplaning.
