A U.S. Air Force registered 61-0321 refueling plane landed safely in England after declaring an in-flight emergency Wednesday morning.
The crew of a KC-135 Stratotanker declared an emergency about 12:20 a.m. and landed at RAF Mildenhall at 1:20 a.m., the base said in a statement.
The KC-135 fleet has been in service for over 50 years. The Air Force is due to start replacing its fleet of 179 Stratotankers with the new Boeing KC-46 Pegasus in 2017.
