TransAsia Airways Flight GE235 (B-22816) was a domestic flight from Taipei Songshan Airport, Taiwan to Kinmen Airport, Taiwan. The flight was carrying 53 passengers & 5 crew members. Two minutes after take off from Taipei the pilots reported an engine flameout. Flight 235 climbed to a maximum height of 1,500ft then descended. The other working engine was shut down mistakenly. Immediately before crashing into the Keelung river, it banked sharply left and clipped a taxi travelling west on the Huandong Viaduct, then the viaduct itself, with its left wing. 43 of the 58 on board lost their lives.
24 March – Germanwings Flight 4U9525
Germanwings Flight 4U9525 (D-AIPX) was a scheduled international passenger flight from Barcelona-El Prat Airport, Spain to Düsseldorf Airport, Germany. The flight was carrying 144 passengers & 6 crew members. One minute after the last routine contact with ATC & shortly after it had reached its assigned cruising altitude. The co-pilot Andreas Lubitz, who had previously been treated for suicidal tendencies locked the captain out of the cockpit before initiating a descent that caused the aircraft to crash into the French Alps. All 144 passengers & 6 crew members lost their lives.
30 June – Indonesian Air Force Lockheed C-130 Hercules crash
Indonesian Air Force Lockheed C-130 Hercules (A-1310) was a transport military flight from Soewondo Air Force Base, Medan to Raja Haji Fisabilillah Airport, Tanjung Pinang. The aircraft was carrying 110 passengers & 12 crew members. Two minutes after take off the plane rolled to the right clipping a cellphone tower then struck three buildings inverted. Killing all 122 & 17 on the ground. It was reported that engine number 4 had malfunctioned, indicating a mechanical failure.
22 August – Shoreham Airshow crash
A Canfield Hunter Limited Hawker Hunter T7 (G-BXFI) crashed during a display at the Shoreham Airshow at Shoreham Airport, England. The aircraft failed to complete a loop manoeuvre & crashed onto vehicles on the A27 truck road, West Sussex. Killing 11 people on the ground including 2 players from Worthing United Football Club. The pilot survived the crash and was placed in a medically-induced coma. Later recovered. It was the deadliest air show accident in the United Kingdom since the 1952 Farnborough air show crash, which killed 31 people.
31 October – Kogalymavia (Metrojet) Flight 7K9268
Kogalymavia (Metrojet) Flight 7K9268 (EI-ETJ) was an international chartered passenger flight from Sharm el-Sheikh Internation Airport, Sinai Peninsula, Egypt to Pulkovo Airport, Saint Petersburg, Russia. The flight was carrying 217 passengers & 7 crew members. 23 minutes after taking off from el-Sheikh, the aircraft disintegrated above North Sinai Governorate. All 217 passengers & 7 crew members lost their lives. Soon after the crash, the ISIL claimed responsibility for the incident. ISIL posted pictures of what is said was the bomb in its online magazine. The Russian Federal Security Service announced they were sure that it was a terrorist attack, caused by an improvised bomb containing the equivalent of up to 1 kilogram (2.2lb) of TNT. This accident is the deadliest crash involving an aircraft from the Airbus A320 family.
