BREAKING North Korea fires new ballistic missile from Pyongsong in South Pyongan Province

North Korea has fired a ballistic missile, South Korean media say, quoting military officials.

South Korean news agency Yonhap reported that the missile flew eastward.

  • UPDATE 20:09 UTC Korea’s missile flew around 960km at altitude of 4,500km.
  • UPDATE 20:03 UTC US has detected, tracked 1 North Korean launch that it believes was an intercontinental ballistic missile.
  • UPDATE 19:45 UTC NHK reports the country’s government estimates North Korea’s missile flew for 50 minutes and landed in Japan’s exclusive economic zone.

The missile was launched from Pyongsong in South Pyongan Province, according to a statement from South Korean armed forces chiefs.

The missile flew eastward and the South Korean military is analyzing details with the US.

It is North Korea’s first missile launch since mid-September, when it fired a missile over Japan.More details to come…
