DUBLIN — An American Airlines transatlantic flight was forced to make an unscheduled landing in Ireland today after a passenger suffered a medical emergency thousands of feet over the Atlantic Ocean.
Flight AA719, operated by a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner (registration N840AN), departed Rome’s Fiumicino Airport (FCO) at 12:40 CEST bound for Philadelphia International Airport (PHL).
Approximately four hours into the journey, while cruising at 39,000 feet over the North Atlantic, the flight crew contacted Air Traffic Control to report a medical issue on board requiring immediate attention. Recognizing the need for urgent ground assistance, the pilots initiated a diversion toward Dublin Airport (DUB), the nearest suitable diversion airfield.
