ABU DHABI, UAE – Following a period of significant travel disruption caused by regional airspace closures, Zayed International Airport (AUH) has officially resumed flight operations. The reopening marks a critical step in restoring the flow of international travel through the UAE capital.

The first signs of activity began earlier today when a Lufthansa repositioning flight departed Abu Dhabi. The aircraft, an Airbus A380 that had been undergoing maintenance at the airport, took off for Munich. While it carried only a flight crew due to current operational constraints, its departure served as a symbolic “test flight” for the airport’s reopening.

Etihad Superjumbo Leads the Way

Shortly after, Etihad Airways signaled its return to full service as its flagship Airbus A380 (Flight EY67) took to the skies bound for London Heathrow. This departure represents the first major passenger service to leave the terminal since the suspension was lifted.

The recovery schedule is moving swiftly, with several high-profile departures lined up for the afternoon:

  • EY41 to Amsterdam: The next priority flight, scheduled for departure this afternoon.
  • EY61 to Moscow: Preparing for departure shortly.
  • EY31 to Paris (CDG): Expected to join the departure queue as the airport clears its backlog.

Passenger Advisory

Despite the resumption of flights, airport authorities and Etihad Airways continue to urge caution. Travelers are advised to:

  1. Check Live Status: Use the official airport website or airline apps before heading to the terminal.
  2. Verify Rebookings: Many previously cancelled passengers are being accommodated on these initial flights, meaning seat availability remains tight.
  3. Expect Delays: While the gates are open, the “logistical ripple effect” from the past 48 hours means some delays are still expected.

The reopening of Abu Dhabi’s airspace is expected to ease the pressure on thousands of stranded travelers across the Middle East as other major hubs, including Dubai, also begin to ramp up operations.
