A 24 year-old Boeing 737 experienced a serious technical incident while on approach to Austin, Texas.
Delta Air Lines confirmed that one of its aircraft encountered a technical issue during a flight from Orlando to Austin on Tuesday.
Flight DL1893, performed by a Boeing 737-800 (registration N3740C) carrying 62 passengers and six crew members, landed safely in Austin before the problem was discovered. According to Delta, a portion of the left wing’s flap was missing when the aircraft was inspected after arrival.
Passenger Shanila Arif, who was onboard, shared footage showing a visibly detached section of the wing flap while the plane was still in the air.
During the flight, while the plane was at an altitude of about 12,000 feet, passengers noticed that a part of the wing flap was visibly detached.
Despite the visible damage, Delta emphasized that the landing was completed “safely and without incident.” The airline said the plane has been taken out of service for maintenance and apologized to customers.
“We apologize to our customers for their experience, as nothing is more important than the safety of our people and customers,” a Delta spokesperson said.
