A flight to Philadelphia declared an emergency and returned to Boston after loss of navigational systems.

American Airlines flight AA2616 departed Boston Sunday, August 17 2025 at 18:45 EDT for a flight to Philadelphia.

The Airbus A321 stopped the climb at 8,100 feet then descended to 4,000 feet as the crew had to deal with a loss of navigational systems according to Flightradar24.

Pilots then declared an emergency (squawk 7700) shortly after takeoff and contacted ATC to reiquire an immediate return.

The plane (registration N157UW) landed back at Boston Logan International Airport on runway 22L, 53 minutes after departure.
