A bird strike forced an emergency landing of an IndiGo A320 aircraft.

A Kolkata-bound IndiGo flight was forced to make an emergency landing at Ranchi’s Birsa Munda Airport on Monday after a mid-air bird strike, officials said.

The aircraft, which was en route from Patna to Kolkata with 175 passengers on board, was hit by vultures at an altitude of around 3,000, approximately 10 to 12 nautical miles from Ranchi.

The Airbus A320 sustained damage near its nose due to the impact.

“The IndiGo flight suffered a bird strike near Ranchi and had to make an emergency landing here,” said R R Maurya, Director of Birsa Munda Airport, as quoted by PTI.
