Authorities search for answers as they continue their investigation after a Boeing 737 cargo plane crashed into a house near Vilnius Airport in Lithuania on Monday morning.
A DHL Boeing 737-400F flying from Leipzig, Germany, to Lithuania hit a building in Vilnius and exploded into a huge fireball early Monday morning, killing a crew member and injuring three others.
Speaking on the sidelines of the G7 Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Italy, Germany’s Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock raised the question of whether the plane crash was a hybrid attack.
Authorities must “seriously” consider whether a cargo plane crash in Lithuania was an act of “hybrid” warfare, Germany’s foreign minister said.
Annalena Baerbock, raised the possibility that the crash had been caused on purpose, telling reporters: “We must now seriously ask ourselves whether this was an accident or whether it was another hybrid incident,” in an allusion to the recent severing of cables in the Baltic Sea that officials have said could have been sabotage.
“The German authorities are working very closely with the Lithuanian authorities to get to the bottom of this,” she added.
