British Airways #BA28 to London Heathrow was forced to return to Hong Kong.
The Boeing 787-9 (reg. G-ZBKA) took off from Hong Kong at 23:59 HKT from runway 07R and turned right.
While climbing to 16,000 ft, the crew alerted ATC about a technical issue.
Pilots of the Dreamliner flew for about 2 hours over the South China sea in order to burn/dump fuel before returning.
The aircraft landed safely 2 hours and 17 minutes after departure on runway 07L and returned to terminal 1.
The flight was cancelled and passengers are complaining about information received.
The aircraft is still under maintenance at Hong Kong, the next flight should be operated by another B789 (reg. G-ZBKM).
British Airways sent this statement to Airlive: “We are extremely sorry for the delay to our customers’ journeys. We would never operate a flight unless it was safe to do so, and our teams are working hard to get customers on their way as quickly as possible.”
