Delta flight #DL221 from Paris CDG to Salt Lake City diverted to Madrid after declaring an emergency over Scotland.
The Airbus A330-300 (reg. #N805NW) took off from Paris at 10.45 local time and declared an emergency 1h35 later after flying over Scotland.
The crew detected heating system issue on left engine and requested a diversion to Madrid-Barajas Airport, 2100 km (1300 miles) away.
The airline explained the reason for choosing Madrid over other airports was due freezing temperatures in Dublin or London.
Luckily, after more than 3 hours flight DL221 landed safely in Madrid and was accompanied by emergency equipment to the remote stand, where it now remains grounded until further notice.
