GENEVA / PARIS — A British Airways flight bound for Geneva was forced to divert to Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) today after severe weather conditions prevented a safe landing at its intended destination.
Flight BA746, operated by an Airbus A321neo (registration G-TNEF), departed London Heathrow Airport (LHR) as scheduled at 5:20 PM BST. After cruising smoothly at 35,000 feet across French airspace, the aircraft initiated its final approach into Geneva Airport (GVA) approximately one hour into the flight.
However, intense thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain swept across the Lake Geneva region, reducing visibility and creating challenging landing conditions. As flight crews assessed the severe weather, the pilots of BA746 executed a standard go-around maneuver while on final approach to ensure safety.
With multiple aircraft holding or opting not to land amid the adverse weather around Geneva, the crew made the decision to divert north to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, where the aircraft landed safely.
Flight operations confirmed that the diversion is temporary. Once weather conditions improve over Geneva and the aircraft is refueled, BA746 is scheduled to resume its journey from Paris to its final destination in Geneva.
