SHARE

Pilots of Ryanair flight bound for STN have declared the loss of communications, prompting emergency procedures as air traffic controllers work to reestablish contact with the aircraft.

The Boeing 737-800 (registration 9H-QCJ) was circling at 9,000 feet when the crew squawked 7600.

The declaration of “loss of communications” by the FR642 from Valencia indicates that the aircraft has experienced a failure of its primary radio systems, preventing normal coordination with air traffic control. This type of emergency typically triggers immediate response protocols from aviation authorities.

Emergency Response Protocols

When aircraft lose communication capabilities, air traffic controllers implement specific procedures to ensure the safe separation of the affected aircraft from other traffic. This typically involves clearing airspace around the aircraft and potentially scrambling intercept aircraft to provide visual contact.

The proximity to London Stansted means that UK air traffic control and potentially RAF aircraft could be involved in monitoring and assisting the Ryanair flight until communications can be restored or the aircraft lands safely.

Developing Situation

UPDATE 12:30
The flight FR642 is now on final approach to London Stansted Airport.

UPDATE 12:35
Safe touch down on runway 04, a bit more than 2 hours after departure.

UPDATE 12:36
The aircraft is guided by a “follow me” car to stand 88.
