China has effectively halted aircraft deliveries from Boeing due to escalating trade tensions with the United States.

In response to increased U.S. tariffs on Chinese imports, the Chinese government has instructed airlines not to purchase Boeing aircraft, parts, or related equipment.

This directive impacts major carriers such as Air China, China Eastern, and China Southern, limiting them to receiving only previously ordered aircraft.

Prior to the ban, several Chinese carriers had pending orders for about 130 Boeing aircraft. For instance, China Southern Airlines had plans to add 103 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. However, the current trade restrictions have cast uncertainty over the fulfillment of these orders.

In the past days, Xiamen Airlines refused the delivery of a 737 MAX at Boeing’s Zhoushan completion center. The aircraft flew 5,000 miles back to Boeing Seattle plant according to Reuters.

Future orders are contingent upon the resolution of trade disputes between China and the United States.
