Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt to Newark was forced to divert to Boston.
The flight #LH402 departed Frankfurt Monday, September 2 2024 for a 8-hour flight to Newark.
But after 7 hours into the flight, while on approach to EWR, The Boeing 747 (registration D-ABYL) was put on hold at 14,000 ft.
The aircraft then climbed back to 15,000 ft and was vectored to Boston due to a radar outage at Newark. It landed at 17:45 at BOS.
The super jumbo departed almost 2 hours later to reach Newark after a one-hour flight.
Outage apparently had to do with the radar feed. The FAA actually moved the EWR area of the New York TRACON to the Philadelphia TRACON at the end of July.
