Two passengers who locked a stranger’s crying grandchild in a plane restroom have caused outrage in China.
The incident took place on 24 August onboard a Juneyao Airlines flight from the southwestern city of Guiyang to Shanghai.
Two women in China have been accused of child abuse after they separated a crying toddler from her grandmother and locked her in the toilet of a plane, on a domestic flight.
The story went viral on the Chinese internet after one of the two women, Gou Tingting, posted a video of herself carrying the girl inside the cubicle.
The girl can been seen wailing and trying to get out of the locked lavatory door. One of the women can be heard saying “if you stop crying, you can go out” and “if you stop crying, auntie will take you back to grandma”.
As the girl stopped crying, the woman filming the video picked her up and told her: “If you make any noise again, we’ll come back (to the bathroom).”
Neither of the women are thought to be related to the child. Local media reports say she was a one-year-old, though the airline has not given that detail.
The toddler was flying with her grandparents and cried non-stop during the nearly three-hour flight, the airline said in a statement Monday.
