British Airways has announced it is halting flights between London and Beijing.
British Airways will drop its flights to Beijing from October, as it feels the impact of being banned from Russian airspace.
The carrier said it was “pausing” its service from the end of October until at least November next year.
In a call with investors last month, Nicholas Cadbury, the chief financial officer of BA’s parent company IAG, said it faced “weak demand” in China.
Air traffic between Europe and China has been slow to recover since the pandemic, with Chinese carriers taking a majority of the market.
Russia’s civil aviation authority introduced the restrictions in February 2022, in retaliation to a British ban on the country’s Aeroflot airline as part of sanctions related to the war in Ukraine.
However flights to Shanghai and Hong Kong will continue, British Airways said.
