Swiss Air flight from Zurich to Bangkok turned around over the Black sea.
Swiss Air flight #LX180 departed Zurich on Tuesday, June 4 2024 at 18:24 CEST for a 10-hour flight to Bangkok in Thailand.
The flight was operated by a 8-year-old Boeing 777-300ER with registration HB-JNB.
The aircraft climbed to 31,000 ft over Austria then 33,000 ft over Hungary. But about 2 hours into the flight, the crew decided to turn around.
The plane descended to FL320 and was vectored back to Zurich where it landed at 23:00 local time, almost 5 hours after departure.
The reported problem appeared to be a malfunction of the weather radar system. As thunderstorms were expected in Bangkok, the crew decided to return to Zurich.
