Departures to JFK and LGA are grounded due to thunderstorms.
The FAA issued ground stops at JFKand LaGuardia Airport Thursday morning as a severe thunderstorm moved through the tri-state area.
The ground stops were issued around 9:30 a.m., and it was expected to lift at about 12 p.m., according to the FAA.
By 10:40 a.m., the ground stop at Newark was lifted, but flights were still seeing significant delays.
Flights at all three airports were already seeing delays up to nearly two hours.
The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning throughout New York City and the surrounding areas until 10:45 a.m. Heavy downpours hit around 10 a.m. Hail and wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour were expected throughout the morning.
