Flight AA78 from Dallas-Fort Worth to London Heathrow diverted to New York JFK Airport.

The American Airlines flight #AA78 departed in the night of Saturday, May 47 and Sunday, May 5 2024.

The flight operated by a Boeing 777-300ER (registration N736AT) departed at midnight from Dallas-Fort Worth Airport.

But almost 2 hours into the flight, the plane turned around while cruising at 33,000 ft, heading back to Dallas when it finally turned towards Nashville or Atlanta.

The Boeing 777 finally headed to New York JFK Airport where it circled at 10,000 ft to dump fuel.

The Boeing 777 suffered a lighting strike.

The aircraft landed at JFK 5 hours and 30 minutes after departure and is scheduled to resume the flight at 08:00 EDT.

The crew didn’t declare an emergency but the reason of the diversion could be a situation on board, forcing the pilots to manage it before crossing the Atlantic.
