A United Airlines Boeing 767 plane lost its emergency evacuation slide in mid-air Monday near Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, maintenance workers at O’Hare discovered an emergency evacuation slide was missing from a United Airlines Boeing 767 that had just safely landed after a flight from Zurich, Switzerland sometime Monday afternoon.

The Boeing 767 (reg. N666UA) is 24 years old and was arriving from Zurich. The plane landed on time at 12:35 CDT.

A man and his son were inside their home and heard a boom in their backyard.

They dragged the slide from the backyard to the front of the home. They said the large piece of equipment damaged the roof of the home and a kitchen window.
