Climate activists blocked a runway at Hamburg airport early Thursday, causing numerous flights to be canceled.
Climate activists from the Last Generation group on Thursday stuck themselves to the taxiways at both Hamburg and Düsseldorf airports, causing major disruption to flights.
In Hamburg, the protest action comes on the first day of the school holidays, when around 50,000 passengers and 330 flights were expected to flight out of the airport.
Climate activists broke into the airport through a security fence and glued themselves to the tarmac, the group announced.

According to an airport spokesperson, flights have been grounded since 6:10am due to a police operation at the scene. No flights have been able to take off or land, and further cancellations and flight diversions cannot be ruled out.
“For safety reasons, air traffic had to be temporarily suspended,” they said.
