On 1st July 2023, a Bombardier DHC-8-402Q operated by Oriental Air Bridge (leased from ANA) made an emergency landing in Miyazaki, Japan, after smoke was detected in the cockpit and cabin.
The aircraft with registration JA844A was performing flight OC67 from Fukuoka to Miyazaki with 35 passengers and four crew members on board. However, while flying over Kumamoto prefecture at 13:05 local time (05:05 UTC), the flight crew detected white misty smoke in the cockpit and cabin.
Following this, the crew declared an emergency and landed safely at Miyazaki Airport at 13:29 local time.
An emergency evacuation was carried out on the taxiway, and all passengers and crew members were able to disembark without injury. The sole runway at Miyazaki Airport was closed for one hour while the aircraft was inspected.
The cause of the smoke is not yet known, but the aircraft is being investigated by aviation authorities.
