United Airlines on Thursday said that it is going to re-hire about 300 pilots as travel demand rebounds with an increase in vaccination rates, according to an internal memo.
Last week, United Airlines Senior Vice President of Flight Operations Bryan Quigley emailed pilots explaining the strong rebound in demand for air travel. United’s Chief Executive Scott Kirby also said on Wednesday that demand for domestic travel has almost entirely recovered.
Quigley also stated that this would see the airline hiring pilots who had conditional job offers or training scheduled last year before the airline called off hiring.
“With vaccination rates increasing and travel demand trending upwards, I’m excited to share that United will resume the pilot hiring process that was halted last year,” said Bryan Quigley.
“We’ll start with the approximately 300 pilots who either had a new hire class date that was cancelled or who had a 2020 conditional job offer.”
United Airlines is expecting to have all of its pilots back working their normal number of hours by May.
