Etihad Airways has told staffs to get COVID-19 vaccine or go without pay if they test positive for the novel Coronavirus. The airline also warned office staffs that they won’t be allowed to work from home during their isolation.

In an internal memo sent to the staff, the airline said:

“We strongly urge the non-vaccinated crew to consider getting the vaccine and taking those steps to further help the community by protecting themselves and protecting each other.”

The airline also stated that if the employee is unvaccinated and tests positive for COVID or is identified through close contact tracing, annual leave will be used to cover any time away from work, including isolation.

The Abu Dhabi based airline was one of the first airlines to offer a COVID-19 vaccine to its staffs after the UAE health authorities authorised the vaccine back in September.

Health authorities in the UAE have authorised the use of the Pfizer / BioNTech, Sinopharm vaccines, and the Oxford / AstraZeneca vaccine. Etihad is encouraging its staff to receive the vaccine as quickly as possible.

Etihad also decided to roll out Travel Pass last month. The travel pass will initially be offered to Etihad passengers on selected flights from Abu Dhabi in the first quarter of the year.
