Qatar Airways has confirmed that the airline will only retain five of its Airbus A380-800s in the future as it recovers from the Covid-19 pandemic.
Speaking during a CAPA live event, Qatar Airways CEO, Akbar Al Baker said:
“Even when we operate [our A380s], we will only operate half of the numbers we have. So if you are very interested to purchase some for yourself, I will sell [them] to you.”
Currently, all of its 10 Airbus A380-800s are in long term storage. The Gulf carrier has 33 A350-900s, 19 A350-1000s, 30 787-8s along with seven 787-9s in service.
Akbar Al Baker also said that the Airbus A380 is the worst aircraft flying today when it comes to emissions. He praised the superior economies of the Airbus A350s and Boeing 787 Dreamliners.
Qatar Airways took delivery of its last A380 back in April 2018, and the Qatar A380s have an average age of 5.5 years old.
