Amsterdam Airport Schipol’s Polderbaan Runway (18R-36L) and its surrounding taxiways will undergo major maintenance from 25 January to 26 April.
An area of 600,000 square metres is being renovated, and during this 150,000 tons of asphalt will be supplied and processed for the maintenance.
Besides, 70 kilometres of cable will be installed, and 2,100 runway lights would be replaced with more sustainable LED variant with longer service life.
Air Traffic Control the Netherlands (LVNL) will also replace the Runway’s Instrument Landing System (ILS) as part of this major maintenance.
Throughout this period, the Polderbaan Runway will not be available for air traffic, and the air traffic coming from the north will mostly use Zwanenburgbaan Runway (18C-36C). This runway will be used in a southerly direction.
However, at night, the Kaagbaan Runway may be used occasionally as a runway for take-off towards the northeast in the event of strong north-easterly wind.
