Gun-wielding officers raided the Gulf Air jet shortly after 3pm – nearly eight hours after it took off from Bahrain International Airport.
Scotland Yard confirmed the arrest was not terror-related.
A spokesman said: “At around 3pm on Tuesday, March 20, Met officers arrested a 29-year-old man on board an inbound flight to Heathrow from Bahrain.
“The male was arrested in connection with a kidnap allegation of 19 December 2017.
