Lufthansa apologised on Monday after publishing a promotional video for the World Cup in Russia that was actually filmed in Ukraine.
The video is about two Germany fans in Moscow repeating everything they did in Rio when Germany won the world championship back in 2004. The men imagine themselves shivering in summer attire on a rainy square and enjoying the “beach” on the banks of a river.
But fans quickly spotted that scenes were filmed in Kiev instead of Moscow amid tensions between Ukraine and Russia.
The clip has been removed from Lufthansa’s social media and the airline issued a statement: “We sincerely regret and apologise for this that is why Lufthansa at the weekend already removed the video from all social media platforms.”
Lufthansa said the clip was shot in Kiev for “logistical reasons”, adding that this was common practice for commercials.
