MUMBAI — A ground collision between an Air India and an IndiGo aircraft occurred tonight at Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (BOM), causing a significant safety scare but resulting in no injuries.

The incident took place on the taxiway during peak hours, involving two narrow-body aircraft packed with passengers. According to airport sources, the wingtips of the two planes “brushed” against each other as they navigated the crowded tarmac.

Incident Details

The collision involved the following flights:

  • Air India AI 2732: Scheduled to fly from Mumbai to Coimbatore. The aircraft was in the process of pushing back from its gate for departure.
  • IndiGo 6E 791: Arriving from Hyderabad. The aircraft was taxiing toward its designated parking bay after a safe landing.

Reports indicate that as the Air India jet was being pushed back by a tug, its wingtip came into contact with the wingtip of the taxiing IndiGo plane. Passengers on both flights felt a “shudder,” and the crew immediately halted all movement.

Investigation Underway

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has taken note of the incident and ordered a formal probe. Both airlines have confirmed they are cooperating fully with the regulatory authorities.
