Flight operations halted on south runway after an aircraft skidded the paved surface following in wet conditions.
Passengers aboard an AJet flight arriving from Pristina were evacuated on Sunday evening after their aircraft skidded off the south runway at Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport, prompting the airport to close the runway.
AJet flight VF102, operated by a Boeing 737-800 registered TC-JZN, landed at 17:57 TRT—ahead of its scheduled arrival time of 18:25—after a routine flight from Pristina.
Shortly after touchdown on Runway 24, the aircraft veered off the paved surface in rainy, wet conditions, exiting the taxiway instead of continuing toward the terminal area.
Emergency services were dispatched immediately, and all passengers were evacuated safely. There were no reports of injuries.
Airport authorities confirmed that the south runway has been closed as crews assess the aircraft and inspect the runway and taxiway for any damage.
While the incident has caused delays and diversions at one of Turkey’s busiest airports, information has been slow to circulate across Turkish media outlets.
