Flight SQ228 returned to Melbourne after developing a technical issue shortly after departure.

A Singapore Airlines Boeing 777-312(ER) aircraft, registered 9V-SNB, was forced to return to Melbourne Airport (MEL) on Wednesday afternoon following a technical issue that developed shortly after departure.

The flight, operating as SQ228 from Melbourne to Singapore (SIN), departed at approximately 4:51 p.m. local time with 219 passengers and 17 crew members on board. About 50 minutes into the flight, the crew reported a technical issue and initiated a turn around as a safety precaution.

Before landing, the aircraft entered a holding pattern north of Melbourne to dump fuel, reducing its landing weight 7,000 feet.

Following the fuel dump, the aircraft made a safe landing on runway 16 at Melbourne Airport and taxied to the gate without any further incidents reported. Emergency services were on standby as per standard protocol but were not required to intervene.
