The airspace above Aalborg Airport in northern Denmark was closed overnight on Sept. 26 after police reported an unidentified drone.

Aalborg, Denmark — A drone sighting late Wednesday night triggered another major disruption to air traffic in Denmark, underscoring mounting concerns about security across northern Europe.

One-Hour Suspension After Drone Report

According to police, operations at Aalborg Airport were suspended for one hour beginning at 11:40 p.m. after what appeared to be a drone was spotted near the facility. Departures and arrivals were halted, several flights were canceled, and two inbound planes were diverted during the incident.

North Jutland Police Chief Christian Tilsted confirmed that the sighting came from within law enforcement itself:

“We have had a massive presence out there all day, and it is one of our own people who discovered something that looks like a drone,” he said. “We have thoroughly investigated the area, and we have not found anything.”

A Series of Disruptions Across Scandinavia

The latest shutdown follows a string of drone-related incidents in Denmark and neighboring countries:

  • Sept. 24: Aalborg Airport suspended operations after drones were detected near the site, which lies close to a Danish military base.
  • Sept. 22: Copenhagen Airport, northern Europe’s busiest hub, halted flights for hours due to suspected drones.
  • Around the same time, Oslo Airport in Norway was also temporarily closed following similar sightings.

The growing pattern of incidents has raised security alarms in Copenhagen and across the region. Denmark has already discussed the possibility of invoking NATO’s Article 4, which calls for consultations when a member state feels threatened.
