A SpiceJet aircraft, en route to Mumbai from Kandla, experienced a tyre detachment during take-off.

A Mumbai-bound SpiceJet Bombardier DHC8-400 (Q400) aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing on Friday after a tyre detached during takeoff from Kandla Airport.

Flight SG2906 lifted off from runway 23 at 2:39 p.m., when the tower controller observed a large black object fall from the aircraft’s right side onto the runway. A subsequent inspection confirmed it was a tyre along with metal rings, according to airport sources.

The pilots declared a full emergency upon approach to Mumbai but landed safely at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) at 3:51 p.m. The aircraft taxied to the terminal under its own power, and all passengers disembarked without incident.

“An aircraft from Kandla made an emergency landing at CSMIA after reporting a technical issue. A full emergency was declared as a precaution. The aircraft landed safely on Runway 27, and all passengers and crew are safe. Normal operations resumed shortly after. Safety remains CSMIA’s top priority,” a spokesperson said.

A SpiceJet spokesperson also confirmed the incident, emphasizing that the landing was uneventful and passengers were not at risk.

The DHC8-400 operates with a tricycle landing gear system, featuring two nose wheels and four main landing wheels.
