United UA56 to New York is declaring an emergency and turning around

United flight from Paris to Newark has declared an emergency over Normandy and currently turning around.

The flight #UA56 departed Paris CDG Airport terminal 1, gate 30, at 10:01 CEST for an estimated arrival at 11:50 in Newark.

The Boeing 777-200ER departed runway 09R then climbed to 29,000 ft when the crew decided to turn around over Normandy.

We have confirmation the flight UA56 is returning to CDG due to a technical issue with the aircraft. The flight is operated by a 26-year-old Boeing 777 (registration N78003).

The flight is on approach to CDG Airport.

UPDATE 10:56 CEST
The aircraft safely landed on runway 09R.

UPDATE 10:58 CEST
The airline estimates a new departure at 11:41 am from Paris.

UPDATE 13:00 CEST
The aircraft is out of service! A new plane is assigned to the flight with a scheduled departure at 1:30pm from gate S23.
