United flight from Newark to Dublin declared an emergency and diverted.

The flight UA23 departed Newark Thursday, February 13 2025 at 19:44 EST for a 6h 30m flight to Dublin.

The Boeing 777-200ER with registration N217UA climbed to 37,000 ft and started to cross Atlantic when the crew declared a general emergency (squawk 7700).

The aircraft turned around and descended to 34,000 ft as pilots requested an immediate diversion due to a medical emergency on board.

Air traffic control vectored the flight to St. John’s (YYT), Canada where it landed in middle of the night at 2:36 am.

The Boeing plane landed on runway 10 then taxied to the gate. The flight was canceled.

The airline planned to return the flight to Newark but announces it is canceled as well.
